The Maryland Transportation Authority will resume major construction work on the Interstate 95 ramps between the Fort McHenry Tunnel and Caton Avenue in Baltimore this week.
Motorists should expect major delays and be prepared to stop along the entire length of the construction area. The project will affect downtown traffic, and people are advised to adjust their travel time accordingly.
The southbound traffic lanes will split after the Fort McHenry Tunnel this week with two lanes to the left and two lanes to the right. This part of the project will last approximately eight weeks. Those traveling into the city of Baltimore should exit at Key Highway rather than Interstate 395.
Next week, northbound traffic lanes will split three lanes to the left and one to the right between Hanover Street and Key Highway. During this time, commuters heading into Baltimore from the south should use earlier exits, such as Caton Avenue, Washington Boulevard or Russell Street, and avoid I-395.
The Maryland Department of Transportation advises that lane shifts and traffic patterns along I-95 will change throughout the duration of the project.
The $64 million project, originally started in March 2014, will continue through fall.
