The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will host two more open house events on Thursday  in order to receive public input on the future of the Interstate 94 project in Detroit.

The events will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Wayne County Community College, Eastern Campus, 5901 Conner Ave.

Specifically, MDOT is seeking public comments on future mobility configurations and options for the interstate.

Staff and consultants from MDOT will share the most recent project information with the public during the two meetings. This includes updated design concepts as well as traffic counts. The project is meant to improve the safety of the area by making the freeway, originally built more than 50 years ago, more modern.

The I-94 modernization project includes rebuilding 6.7 miles of road between I-96 and Conner Avenue. This segment includes bridge and utility replacement, continuous service drives construction, freeway interchanges improvement and a new freeway lane.

Bridge work is scheduled to continue through 2018, with freeway work scheduled to start in 2019.
