According to a recent announcement, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has requested feedback from the general public about its 2040 MI Transportation Plan.

The feedback is due by Sept. 30. It is part of the public involvement component of the new plan.

Leaders from MDOT will be using public meetings, webinars and the Internet, as well as various other outreach tools, to include the public in reviewing Michigan’s existing transportation plan as well as its supporting documents.

Receiving public feedback will greatly assist the program. Using the comments, MDOT will be able to choose whether the existing assumptions, data and strategies that the transportation in Michigan has used are worth for lengthening the existing 2035 planning deadline through to 2040.

Federal transportation planning regulations require that the state have a periodic evaluation of its 20-year planning horizon.

Bob Parsons, the MDOT public involvement and hearings officer, is available for any comments or requests for printed copies.

The plan is part of the state’s potential long-range transportation plan. MDOT as well as the general public anticipates the positive results of the state’s infrastructure plans. Experts have confirmed time and again that infrastructure is crucial to the U.S. economy and wellbeing.
