Con-way, Inc. said Thursday that Gretchen McClain and Matthew Espe have become the two of the newest members of its Board of Directors.

The appointments of McClain and Espe and the recent election of Wayne Shurts brings the board’s membership to 13.

McClain has previously served as the former president, CEO and board member of Xylem, Inc., a worldwide water technology company worth $3.9 billion. The company has a presence throughout over 150 countries.

Espe has previously worked at Armstrong World Industries, Inc. since 2010, where he was the president, CEO, member of the board of directors and principal executive officer. Armstrong, which produces flooring products and ceiling systems, is worth $2.7 billion.

Con-way representatives have stated that the board seeks to efficiently manage the company’s transitions that will take place during the next two years. Several directors who have served for long terms on the board will soon remove themselves as they meet the mandatory retirement age that is outlined in the corporate governance guidelines.

“We are pleased to welcome these new members to our board,” Con-Way Board Chairman Roy Templin said. “The diversity of industry experience, business acumen and backgrounds that Gretchen, Matthew and Wayne bring to our board will provide valuable insights and perspectives that complement our board’s current composition.”
