The Seattle Pedestrian Advisory Board recently opened its application process for several new members for its board.
There are currently four positions that are open to applicants. The board members themselves must be frequent pedestrians, a variety of ages, from all walks of life and mobile. Applicants must reside in various regions in Seattle.
The goal of the board is to make Seattle a safe and easy city for pedestrians to travel around. The Seattle City Council first established the volunteer board in 1993. Since that time, the board has had an important role in helping to apply the Pedestrian Master Plan of Seattle.
The board members advise the City Council and Mayor. They also evaluate policies, participate in planning, help develop projects and issue recommendations to departments throughout the city, such as the Seattle Department of Transportation.
“Seattle has declared an ambition to be the ‘most walkable city in America,’ and is embracing a goal to make our streets among the safest in the world,” David Goldberg, recent chair of the Pedestrian Advisory Board, said. “The Seattle Pedestrian Advisory Board can play a key role in holding ourselves accountable for these aspirations while meeting the needs of all residents, regardless of age, income or ability.”
