New York State Sen. Catharine Young praised the inclusion of a $50 million Extreme Winter Recovery Fund Among other funding for transportation infrastructure in the state’s budget for 2015-16 on Tuesday.
This is the third year in a row in which record funding amounts have been set aside for roads, highways, bridges and repairs, in addition to the Winter Recovery Fund, Young, R-Olean, said.
“Communities in our area continue to face challenges because of the potholes that formed during this brutally cold and snowy winter,” Young said. “The extreme cold has damaged pavement and left hazardous craters. These potholes are causing vehicle damage and are a real safety issue. Now, local governments will have significant help from the state for bigger projects, alleviating the burden on local taxpayers, and allowing highway departments to direct local funding to the needed repairs.”
She said her constituents have repeatedly expressed the need for overall repairs of roads within the region. The funding that is supplied within the state’s budget will allow upkeep and repair of the infrastructure to make progress of restoring it to the relief of residents throughout the state.
“This funding is great news for our local governments and taxpayers,” Young said.
