The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) published its Final Rule Tuesday in the Federal Register on the agency’s products and procedures for its hearings and meetings.
The new rules will be implemented beginning Jan. 25 and will be codified within part 845 of the 49 C.F.R.
These changes will alter how the board handles its proceedings and hearings. The rules will serve to better regulate how NTSB leaders and board members describe the agency’s products and make recommendations for safety and reports.
The Final Rule divides the current rules into various subcategories, such as rules for board meetings, hearings, miscellaneous provisions and describing products. This will help to improve the clarity of the rules as people access and consult them.
In addition, the NTSB has modified some information as well as terms that are included within part 845.
The rules first began to be changed in March of 2015, when the NTSB released a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking. The board sought comments from the general public about the proposed changes to the rules. There were five comments made about the changes, and these are accessible to the public on the main NTSB website.
