NYC Bus Company VP receives Sloan Public Service Award

George Menduina, vice president of the New York City Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Bus Company and head of New York City Transit’s bus facilities, recently received the Sloan Public Service Award for his 39 years of service with MTA.

The award, which includes $10,000, is sponsored by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. The Fund for the City of New York (FCNY) recognizes six city government and service employees annually for their dedication and overall excellence on the job.

Menduina first joined the MTA in 1977 as a maintenance worker specializing in steam boilers. Eventually, he received licenses that allowed him to serve in operation and  refrigeration engineering. Menduina laterr was transferred to the Department of Buses and was part of the team that commissioned the Mother Clara Hale Bus Depot, the only facility of its kind to receive gold certification from the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).

Throughout his career, Menduina continued his education, studying public-sector law and contemporary issues in industrial and labor law at Cornell University.
