The Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) published U.S. passenger airline employment data for the month of August 2015 on Monday.
According to the report, there were 3.3 percent more workers hired by U.S. scheduled passenger airlines in August. This is the 21st month in a row that U.S. scheduled passenger airlines increased full-time equivalent (FTE) employee hiring compared to the same month the year before. This figure for August is also the highest monthly total, outdone only by September 2008.
For the month-to-month rates, the amount of FTEs increased by 0.1 percent between July and August 2015. August showed growth after one month of decrease.
Four major network airlines employ approximately two-thirds of the FTEs with scheduled passenger airlines. These major airlines confirmed that they employed 3.7 percent more FTEs during August 2015 than they employed in August 2014. In addition, Delta Air Lines and Alaska Airlines showed a rise in FTEs compared to August 2014.
In contrast, United Airlines showed a decrease in its FTEs.
