The Port of Virginia presented the Scoular Co. with its 2015 Shipper of the Year Award at last week’s annual meeting of the Virginia Maritime Association.

Scoular is a leading user of the port’s barge service to Richmond, Virginia. The award recognizes the company for going above and beyond the normal course of business to help the port’s commercial and operational growth.

Virginia Port Authority CEO and Executive Director John Reinhart said Scoular’s selection was based on the company’s commitment to creating new jobs for Virginians — 40 since 2013 — its use of the port’s barge service, its three agricultural container-loading facilities in Virginia and the company’s exclusive export marketing agreement with a Hopewell, Virginia-based ethanol facility.

“Scoular’s job creation, its investment in Virginia, its strategic use of both the barge and the Port of Richmond show a real commitment to Virginia and made it the ideal choice for Shipper of the Year,” Reinhart said.
