President Obama said Friday that he intends to nominate Marie Therese Dominguez as administrator of the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) and Sarah Feinberg as administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), both at the Department of Transportation (DOT).

Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said in a statement that Dominguez will be a great asset to PHMSA and to the DOT, given her extensive management, regulatory and safety experience in the transportation public sector, including at the Federal Aviation Administration.

“She also will bring a different perspective to PHMSA’s safety mission, having worked with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to improve the nation’s water resource infrastructure,” Foxx said.

Foxx said Feinberg has already proven to be a steady and capable leader at FRA, especially during the tragic Amtrak derailment in Philadelphia, where she remained on site throughout the initial rescue and recovery efforts.

“Throughout her time at DOT, she has been immersed in issues related to rail safety, including the safe transportation of crude by rail,” Foxx said. “Her attention to detail and passion for the work continues to impress — not just me, but safety experts, members of Congress and the staff at FRA will benefit from her ability to cut red tape and get things done.”
