The West Virginia Division of Highways will begin advertising for request for qualifications (RFQ) proposals from contractors to complete the final 14.6 miles of U.S. 35 in Putnam and Mason counties.
“Our state’s highways are critical to our continued economic success, and I’m pleased we are moving forward with this project,” Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin said. “By completing U.S. Route 35, we are ensuring the safety of our residents who travel these roads each and every day, and are making it easier for business and industry to operate and achieve success in the Mountain State.”
The project, expected to be complete in October 2018, will make a national freight route available through West Virginia and connecting to the Chicago metro area.
The deadline for contractors to submit proposals to construct the roadbed is March 10. The selection of the winning contractor will be made on May 20.
An additional RFQ will be advertised for the final paving of the road at a later date.
“I appreciate Gov. Tomblin’s leadership that will allow the Division of Highways to use this innovative and efficient method of project delivery to complete Route 35 in West Virginia,” Secretary of Transportation Paul Mattox said.
