The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) currently is marshaling it resources to fix the state’s roadways that were battered by the severe winter.

RIDOT wants to make sure everyone can drive safely and without major delays on state-maintained roads, many of which were severely damaged by the second snowiest winter on record.

“Rhode Islanders have endured a tough winter,” Gov. Gina Raimondo said. “As the grass begins to peek through the melted snow, our state roads are beginning to show the wear and tear of Rhode Island’s severe winter weather. My administration is committed to tackling our poor road conditions with urgency in order to restore the damage caused these past few months.”

From 50 to 70 crew members will be out in the field every day, patching the roads with nearly 20 tons of material. Their work will be complemented by pothole patching services that can be called upon as needed.

The state recently accepted bids for these on-call services that employ patching technology that is faster than traditional patching methods and makes it far more likely the repair job will hold. RIDOT also plans to work with communities on road repairs
