The Subcommittee on Aviation held a roundtable discussion Tuesday concerning the policies for hiring, staffing and training air traffic controllers with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
With the roundtable starting at 10 a.m., the discussion will be held at the Rayburn House Office Building, Room 2167. The public is welcome.
Attendees will include the Aviation Subcommittee, Matthew Hampton (the assistance inspector general for Aviation Audits, Office of Inspector General, Department of Transportation), Teri Bristol (the chief operating officer of Air Traffic Organization, Federal Aviation Administration) and Paul Rinaldi (the president of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association).
The subcommittee, which is led by its chair and U.S. Rep. Frank LoBiondo (R-NJ), will focus on staff updates as well as controller hiring. These are important parts of the 2015 Controller Workforce Plan, which was recently published by the FAA.
The plan also includes details about controller staff levels for important facilities that host air traffic control operations. There is also an analysis of the effects of future as well as prior changes that will be incorporated into the hiring process of controllers with the FAA. The publication has information for future staff plans and the standards for controller training programs.
