The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency announced Thursday that victims of stolen cars that are then towed will be given special favor when they seek to recover their vehicles in the city.
For the residents of the City of San Francisco, the new policy is designed to waive all of the recovery fees. There will be a new 48-hour grace period before fees start adding up for the contractor’s storage.
For people who don’t live in San Francisco but have cars that are stolen in the city, they will need to pay only 50 percent of the city’s Administrative Tow Fee. They can also receive a 24-hour grace period before the fees start accruing for the contractor’s storage.
Both residents of the city and non-residents of the city need to file and verify the stolen vehicle with the San Francisco Police Department. This is required before anyone can qualify for the waiver.
The old policy did not grant any waivers and granted only a 4-hour grace time before the fees started to add up for the contractor’s storage.
This new policy will serve to benefit many people throughout the local San Francisco area.
