MTA New York City Transit recently hosted its seasonal Nostalgia Train rides, drawing large crowds who watched the ride and participated in the trips.

For the last four weekends, thousands of train riders traveled between 2nd Avenue and Queens Plaza platforms. The final weekend had record-breaking crowds, with more than 1,000 people entering the Nostalgia Train at the 2nd Avenue platform on the last day of the event.

“Many, many families, tourists, couples, people just out to see the fuss were all having a great time while crowded aboard and were actually smiling about the experience,” Bill Wall, from NYC Transit, who supervised the operation, said. “The only thing that I have seen like it is riding a jam packed cable car in San Francisco. People loved the experience.”

The cost of the ride was a single MetroCard.

In addition to the train, there was an historical display of subway cars; the New York Museum hosted a pop-up shop located at the 2nd Avenue platform.

“I think that the Nostalgia Rides and the store created a lot of excitement and buzz about the museum,” Ilana Stollman, the New York Museum manager, said. “New Yorkers were happy to see us and wander around inside our vintage trains. It was a great event and wonderful publicity.”
