Projects aimed at educating students about pedestrian and bicycle safety can get a financial boost through the Seattle Department of Transportation’s Mini-Grant program.

Through this initiative, for which applications are now being accepted, eligible projects can receive up to $1,000 in funding. Eligible groups include public and private schools and their parent-teacher organizations, as well as nonprofit groups.

Projects with goals of improving safety and overall conditions for cyclists and pedestrians will be considered, as well as those that urge students to ride their bicycles or walk to school.

For more information or to apply online, visit www.seattle.gov/transportation/ped_srts_grant.htm. Applications from schools must include a letter of support from the school’s principal.

The application deadline is 5 p.m. April 30. Award notifications will be sent out the first week of June, and funding will be distributed in July.

More information can also be obtained by emailing Ashley Rhead at [email protected].
