U.S. Rep. Bill Shuster (R-PA) said the Senate’s recent bipartisan passage of legislation to approve construction of the Keystone XL pipeline is a welcome step forward for the long-delayed project.
“This project, like so many similar pipeline projects approved and built before it, will help improve the nation’s infrastructure, create good jobs for Americans and enhance our nation’s energy security,” Shuster, who chairs the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, said. “I look forward to sending a bill to the president as soon as possible. The American people support Keystone, and they want their government to help improve our economy – not impede it.”
The Senate’s approval of the legislation on Jan. 29 followed passage of similar legislation in the House by a vote of 266 to 153 on Jan. 9.
“The president’s continued interest in wanting to work together to solve America’s infrastructure issues is a positive step,” Shuster said. The (House Transporation and Infrastructure Committee) has shown that it can solve our nation’s problems in a fiscally responsible manner.”
The Keystone project is expected to provide more than 42,000 jobs and $2 billion in earnings.
