U.S. Rep. Bill Shuster (R-PA), chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, introduced the Surface Transportation Extension Act of 2015 Monday.

HR 3996
would lengthen the authorization of federal transit as well as highway programs until Dec. 4.

Transportation and infrastructure are crucial to the local as well as national economy throughout the United States. Businesses use transportation to export and import goods, people use infrastructure to commute to work or school and road projects generate jobs for Americans across the country.

“The House and Senate are making good progress in resolving differences between their respective multi-year surface transportation reauthorization proposals,” Shuster said. “The conference committee needs the time necessary to meet in public, complete negotiations, and produce a final measure that helps improve Americas infrastructure. This clean extension provides time for that process to occur and for the House and Senate to vote on the final legislation, without shutting down transportation programs and projects in the meantime.”
