The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) announced that pavement repairs will take place on Highway 85 beginning Monday.

Construction crews will begin working between Spearfish to Belle Fourche and between Exit 17 and Deadwood once the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is finished on Aug. 9. Commuters and travelers can expect lane closures, possible delays and speed reduction as construction workers complete the project. Motorists may be asked to slow down significantly or come to a stop while work is in progress so that necessary equipment is available. Completion of the project is expected on Oct. 31.

Work will be suspended during the Sturgis rally and the highway will be fully operational during that time.

Work that will be completed in this project includes sealing of cracks and chips, striping, and other shoulder, joint and spall repair. This ensures a longer lifespan of the highway and addresses imperfections and wear and tear that comes from daily traffic, weather and chemicals. These repairs are also expected to prolong the underlying road bed’s usability.

Complete Concrete Inc is the primary contractor for this

$2.1 million

project. For more complete road conditions, residents and motorists are urged to call 511 or visit the Safe Travel USA site available on the SDDOT site.
