The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) recently reopened southbound Interstate 75 as part of its successful expansion of the interstate.

The road, which was closed from Hess Road to Dixie Highway, reopened Monday. The purpose was to prepare this segment of the road for the I-75 expansion between Hess Road to Dixie Highway.

This is the first part of the two-year, $45 million project to expand the interstate. This first portion required crews to reconstruct bridges on King Road, Baker Road, and Hess Road, all of which cross over I-75.

Crews reopened the bridge on Baker Road Friday. The bridge on King Road reopened this past summer, and the bridge of Hess Road was rebuilt and reopened last week.

“We appreciate the cooperation and patience of motorists and local residents who have been impacted by this project,” Traci Paige, MDOT Bay City Transportation Service Center assistant construction engineer, said. “We’re committed to building quality roads and bridges for our customers.”

The next phase of the project will start in the spring when crews begin to reconstruct the northbound lanes of I-75.
As of today, the work is continuing as scheduled according to the timeline.
