Student Transportation of America, Inc. (STA) recently signed a seven-year contract to provide bus service to the Pine-Richland School District in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The contract will pay $3.7 million per year.

A new fleet of 77 vehicles will begin providing transportation services to three elementary schools, one middle school and one high school in the district during the 2015-16 school year. The buses will run on liquid propane gas, which is a cleaner burning, quieter and more efficient fuel source compared to diesel.

“We are very pleased to have been awarded the contract for school transportation with Pine-Richland School District,” Patrick Vaughan, chief operating officer of STA, said. “Our company’s culture and new fleet of clean-burning propane vehicles have proven themselves in nearby Gateway School District, and will be a welcomed addition to the students and residents of this community. We’ll be reaching out to the existing staff and also creating new jobs in the area. We look forward to building a long-term relationship with the community and all those currently involved, and welcoming them to join our STA family.”

The contract includes a renewal option and calls for 100 percent customer-paid fuel.

“The district’s top priority remains student safety and the overall quality of service,” Rachel Hathhorn, spokeswoman for Pine-Richland School District, said. “Along with the economics of the proposal, these were all factors in our decision to select STA. We performed numerous reference checks, engaged in site visits to other districts serviced by STA, reviewed various safety data and were very pleased with what we saw. The district is confident STA will bring a safe, well-managed transportation operation to the district.”

Vaughan added that STA will present information to its current drivers and support staff, who will be offered the first opportunity for the new positions. Those interested in applying should visit www.Drive4STA.com and complete the pre-application.
