STV received a new contract from the California High Speed Rail Authority to perform further environmental and engineering work for the authority’s high-speed rail program on Monday.
The authority is responsible for designing, planning, and constructing a high-speed rail system that will run between the major population regions in California. The Phase 1 system will join San Francisco to Los Angeles/Anaheim via the Central Valley. Eventually the system will join San Diego and Sacramento via the Inland Empire.
Until now, the authority had partnered with STV for engineering and environmental work on the project section between Anaheim and Los Angeles, which extends approximately 30 miles.
Previously, the route between Anaheim and Burbank included some of the densest areas of California, and even though the route did not include high mileage, it was the second busiest Amtrak route in the nation, just below the Northeast Corridor between Boston and Washington, D.C.
“It’s an incredibly busy and constrained corridor running through the heart of Los Angeles, so it’s important to work closely with the surrounding communities and railroad operators moving forward,” STV Planning Task Manager Tyler Bonstead said.
J.L. Patterson and Associates will be STV’s prime subconsultant.
“Both firms have successfully worked together in support of many other passenger rail initiatives in California, including the development of the Metrolink commuter rail system in the early 1990s,” Bonstead said. “We’re honored to have been contracted by the authority as part of this latest landmark rail initiative in California.”
