Total March employment by U.S. airlines jumped more than two percent from a year earlier, The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) announced Wednesday.
The BTS updated its airline employment web page with March full and part-time employment data. It showed that total full- and part-time employment by all U.S. airlines, including scheduled passenger, charter and cargo planes, was 598,777 compared with 596,803 in February and 585,954 in March 2014.
Airlines that operate at least one aircraft that has more than 60 seats or the capacity to carry a payload of passengers, cargo and fuel weighing more than 18,000 pounds, must report monthly employment statistics.
The next web update for full-time and part-time employment is scheduled for June 11. The BTS press release on full-time equivalent employment for scheduled passenger airlines, including historic comparisons and summary tables, will be issued next week.
