ABQ Ride recently invited all news media to participate in a tour of the city’s latest transportation innovation, Albuquerque Rapid Transit (ART).

The tour, titled Transit in Motion “Talk, Tour & Toasts,” includes the Central Avenue corridor. It is scheduled for Aug. 19.

The tour starts with an interactive discussion at the Mid-Region Council of Governments Board Room at 6 p.m.

Beginning at 7 p.m., the Urban Bus Tour will display the potential of the ART project. This includes the benefits that it will have for transportation along Central Avenue, which is the most used corridor in the city.

Then the tour will visit Nob Hill, the Old Town area and Downtown. Participants will also stop at Civic Plaza to see the Sunset Market.

This is an opportunity to display the city of Albuquerque as it makes transit-oriented developments for the future.

Other cities in the United States have demonstrated vast benefits from having bus rapid transit. Leaders eagerly anticipate the positive results of having a similar system in Albuquerque. This new route will make public transportation more effective and much easier for people in the area. It is also a catalyst for redeveloping as well as developing Central Avenue.
