Anthony Foxx recently met with Knoxville, Tennessee, Mayor Madeline Rogero and other local leaders to discuss the region’s proposed Alcoa Highway project.
If implemented, the project would reduce traffic congestion and improve safety by adding several new interchanges and widening SR-115. Unfortunately, these changes may not take place for several years due to a lack of federal funding for infrastructure projects across the U.S.
“The Knoxville area is one of the most important commuter and freight routes — and stretches of it have had high crash rates,” Foxx said. “A serious, long-term funding plan is necessary to keep Tennessee’s highways both safe and competitive, which is why Congress should act now.”
Foxx has started a national tour to emphasize how crucial it is that America invests in its infrastructure and to urge Congress to approve a long-term transportation bill.
