Tryon Lewis was named chair of the Texas Transportation Commission by Gov. Greg Abbott last month.

Lewis, a Texas state representative from 2008 to 2015, will serve at the pleasure of the governor. The commission he heads is responsible for the Texas Department of Transportation.

Before his stint in the legislature, Lewis was a lawyer in Odessa, focusing on civil litigation. He spent most of his career – 21 years — as a state district judge before resuming his law practice. While in the legislature, he was chairman of the Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence Committee, and co-chair of the Joint House Senate Committee on Judicial Selection.

Lewis is currently a partner at the law firm of Atkins, Hollman Jones, Peacock, Lewis & Lyon.
