Representatives from the Transport Workers Union (TWU) wrapped up a six-day meeting Friday with staff and leaders from American Airlines and US Airways.
The discussions, which were described as intense for everyone involved, revolved around a training conference and a contract negotiation. Those attending the conference, held in Baltimore, included TWU’s local presidents and international staff. There also were representatives from both airlines as they worked to perfect their contract negotiation skills with the new American Airlines.
TWU’s first step was to ensure all classes and crafts had adequate representation at the negotiation table. TWU staff members helped establish subcommittees to be certain that all of the needs were addressed during the negotiations. The subcommittees have been granted the responsibility of preparing and researching contract proposals that the TWU staff and airline representatives will use as they collaborate with the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers (IAM). These documents are essential to finalizing the TWU/IAM Association contract negotiations.
TWU says it is dedicated to contract negotiations that will fulfill the needs of works and their families. The organization’s leaders have promised to keep laborers informed of developments throughout the negotiation process.
The meetings and their outcomes will be finalized on Friday.
