U.S. airlines employed more than 600,000 people in September, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported last week.
Airlines that run a minimum of one aircraft with more than 60 seats, or have the ability to transport a payload of cargo, passengers and fuel weighing more than 18,000 pounds, are required to report their employment statistics each month.
The data includes figures for full- and part-time employees.
The total of both of these employment categories for U.S. airlines added up to 606,395 for all cargo, passenger and charter employees in September.
This figure is a significant increase compared to September 2014, when 589,073 people were employed by all cargo, passenger and charter airlines in the U.S. The number of employees this September was only slightly more than August, when 606,298 employees were reported.
