United Airlines and the Professional Airline Flight Control Association (PAFCA) reached a tentative agreement Tuesday on a contract extension for United’s 400-plus dispatchers, the airline said.

The deal extends the contract through 2021 and provides several undisclosed improvements that will benefit dispatchers, as well as the company as a whole, United said.

The agreement still must be formally approved by United’s dispatchers.

United’s joint collective bargaining pacts cover most worker classes at the company, including ramp and passenger-service agents, pilots, load planners, storekeepers, fleet and maintenance technical instructors, as well as dispatchers.

“This is an important milestone for United and for our dispatchers,” United Airlines President and CEO Oscar Munoz said. “Our dispatchers do a superb job of keeping our passengers and crews safe and keeping our operations reliable, and I’m glad we were able to reach this tentative agreement within a short period of negotiations. I want to thank all of the company and union negotiators for working side-by-side to reach this positive outcome.”
