According to a recent announcement, Via Metropolitan Transit will be hosting a series of open houses about the South/West Corridor Transit Improvements Project: the purpose of the open house is to exchange information about the new project.

As part of SmartMove, the project is a specific series of transit investments that have been identified using a planning process that is driven by local communities. This process is named the Long Range Comprehensive Transportation Plan.

The work leading up to the project includes evaluations of the costs, benefits and effects of applying Primo improvements throughout the City of San Antonio’s southern and western sides.

Via Metropolitan Transit, commonly called VIA, is the main mass transit agency that serves its customers in San Antonio, Texas. Its predecessor was the San Antonio Transit System, and VIA first opened in 1978.

The transit system also serves other municipalities inside Bexar County, such as Balcones Heights, Alamo Heights, Castle Hills, China Grove, Elmendorf, Converse, Leon Valley, Kirby, Shavano Park, Olmos Park, Terrell Hills and St. Hedwig. In addition, it provides transit to unincorporated areas inside the county, like Losova and Kings Point. Unfortunately, its services do not extend to Hollywood Park, Hill Country Village, Selma, Schertz, Live Oak, Windcrest or Universal City.
