The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) recently submitted applications for three Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grants, requesting more than $43 million in combined transportation investments.
The state’s applications for the grants cover projects that would improve transportation options and access, add highway capacity, establish a new passenger terminal for ferry travel, and upgrade more than 12 freight-rail bridges.
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Transportation’s TIGER program provides a unique opportunity for DOT to invest in road, rail, transit and port projects that promise to achieve national objectives. In the previous six rounds of TIGER Discretionary Grant awards, the average award size nationally was $14.5 million. The maximum award is $200 million and no more than $125 million will be awarded to projects in a single state.
DOT will announce the TIGER VII Grant awards no later than early fall.
